Hairdressers Week

Dear Hairdresser and their friend,

In an effort to promote appreciation for hairdressers around the world, we are proposing that one week from 9th May to 15th May in every year be devoted to these professionals, and should be known as Hairdressers Week.

Hard-working professionals in many other fields are already recognized annually with a day, a week or even a month officially designated for them. For instance teachers, nurses, and even secretaries are all honored at certain times of the year for their contribution to society. They are all deserving of this recognition and so too are hairdressers, the unsung heroes behind the scene who strive to make people look their best.

Most people are not aware of the long hours and working conditions that many hairdressers endure in order to provide these services to the best of their talents and abilities. Hairdressers usually start out at the bottom of the hierarchy, quite literally sweeping the floors of the salon while working as junior stylists. They work most weekends and come into contact with chemicals on a daily basis. The professional life of a hairdresser is usually short as the public has no confidence in, or are unwilling to have an 'old' person do their hair.

So, hairdressers of the world unite! It is time for people to show their awareness, concern, admiration and appreciation to you. A celebration is called for, and everyone is invited!

What can you do to promote the concept of Hairdressers Week? Simply send this letter in any format translated, faxed, e-mailed, snail mail or through advertisements to spread the word to your colleagues and associates. Feel free to use this special logo and embrace the spirit of the cause so that by 9th May to 15th May every coming year this idea can become a reality.

Act now and be a small part of history as we make our mark on the calendars of the world so that hairdressers can finally earn the recognition and respect of the public.
