Rooftop burglars hit two more Lombard businesses.

By Bonnie MacKay Two Lombard businesses along North Avenue were burglarized during the night of Feb. 4.

The burglaries at the Mexican Grille and Ultimate Hair, both located at 1000 N. Route 53, were discovered during the morning of Feb. 5.

According to the police report, the owner of the Mexican Grille contacted police at about 7:17 a.m. after discovering entry had been made to the business.

"Entry appears to have been gained through the ventilation system," said Lombard police Deputy Chief Dane Cuny, adding it was discovered that a cash register had been tampered with and damaged.

Police reports show that approximately $210 in cash was taken from the business during the burglary.

Cuny said that the suspects "forced their way through [a wall] and made entry to Ultimate Hair."

The hole in the drywall was discovered by officers investigating the burglary at the Mexican Grille.

Police reports show that $300 was taken from a cash register at the hair salon.

Both burglary scenes were processed for evidence, the deputy chief said.

Officers did not receive alarm activations at either of the businesses, according to Cuny.

The two recent burglaries come on the heels of a burglary at Gianorio's Pizza and Pasta, 434 S. Main St., where Cuny said entry was also gained through a vent on the roof.

According to police reports, the burglary was discovered at about 9:43 a.m. on Jan. 30 by a delivery truck driver when he noticed the cash register drawers on the floor of the business.

As in the burglary at the Mexican Grille, ceiling tiles at Gianorio's had been knocked to the floor.

Just days before on Jan. 26, a burglary was discovered at Taylor Street Pizza, 109 E. Roosevelt Road, at about 4 a.m. when officers responded for an alarm activation at the business.

According to the police report, officers found the rear door open and ceiling tiles moved in the kitchen. More than $400 was taken from the business, reports show.

"We've been getting hit with a couple of them," Cuny said of the recent burglaries.
