Cutting It With The Best. BALLARAT hairdresser Abby Papst has won Victoria's peak award for student hairdresser of the year. Ms Papst, 20, an employee at Exterior Motive in Mair St was named Outstanding Student of the Year for 2003 at an awards ceremony at the Power House on Albert Park Lake on Tuesday night. The Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Association awards are designed to recognise and reward outstanding apprentices, students, training providers and employers. Ms Papst, who has recently completed her certificate III in hairdressing, said she was stoked to receive the accolade. "I was so surprised, I was pretty happy. It gives me a bit of confidence to know I am on the right track and doing the right thing," she said. Ms Papst, originally from Horsham, has worked with Exterior Motive since November last year. The University of Ballarat had five nominees in the awards and not only won student of the year in hairdressing but also received two special commendation awards for Sarah Robins from Hair Art and Michael James Mawdsley from El Artista Hairdressing.
