Cataldo's makes the hairdressing Oscars. Cataldo's Salon has been announced a finalist in three prestigious Hair Expo Australian Hairdressing Awards - the industry's own Oscars - which will be held at the Sydney Convention Centre on June 9. Salon Director Emilio Cataldo is one of only four hairdressers nationwide who has been nominated for Australian Hairdresser of the Year. Emilio has only just returned from Sydney where he styled hair for iconic designer Peter Morrissey during Mercedes Australian Fashion Week. His work has featured in more than 40 pages and covers in the top international hair magazines in the last year, and Emilio's styles and fashion predictions are regularly featured in Australian glosses. Australian Hairdresser of the Year is judged on a portfolio of photographic collections, peer recognition, personal integrity, industry participation, education, and fashion related events and business success. Emilio is thrilled not only that he has made the final cut but that the salon team has been acknowledged for its considerable strengths and talents. "We are a very young, and spirited team. I learn from our up-and-coming stylists and am able to build on my own experience," he said. "Our strength is in our ability to interpret fashion and bring it to our clients." Emilio is not the only person who feels this way about the Cataldo's team. The salon is a finalist for Salon Team of the Year and other team members have shined before the judges. Angela Allport is a finalist in the New Creative Force Award, and Shona Cataldo has received a Judges' Recognition Award for Apprentice of the Year. Cataldo's is the only Canberra salon with three finalists. Emilio said the breadth of recognition for the salon showed the strengths of its teamwork and concentration on top level education and training. The Hair Expo awards are in their 18th year and are Australia's longest running & most respected hairdressing awards with more than 55 entries this year.
