Woman sues salon over hair loss. A woman narrated before a Makadara court how she became bald after a hair dresser allegedly applied a chemical on her hair. Grace Wanjiru told Resident Magistrate Regina Oyaro that she now wears a wig since the incident because her hair has not grown. Wanjiru told the court that she went to her usual hair dresser on May 15, this year and asked her to relax her hair. She said she had earlier given the hair dresser, Ms Mary Mutheu, Sh400 for the purchase of Dark and Lovely Hair Relaxer. Mutheu is charged with "recklessly and negligently" administering a chemical on Wanjiru's hair, which caused it to fall off. She has denied committing the offence and is out on a Sh20,000 personal bond with a similar surety. When she sat to have her hair relaxed, Mutheu picked the chemical, which was in a bottle and applied it on her head. She then told her to wait for 15 minutes as the chemical worked on her hair, Wanjiru told the court. Wanjiru said that after 15 minutes, one of the employees at the salon asked her to follow her to the sink to have the hair washed. Wanjiru said she watched in disbelief as her hair fell off into the sink. She said she went to the police after Mutheu allegedly refused to compensate her after promising to do so. Earlier, she visited a hospital because her head ached and had sores. A witness, Purity Wanja, told the court that she was having her hair plaited the day Wanjiru had hers relaxed. She said she saw the accused apply the chemical and also saw her employee wash Wanjiru at the sink. Oyaro adjourned the case until September 7 when the hearing continues.
