Principal faces prosecution for snipping off schoolgirl's hair HATOGAYA, Saitama A school principal who snipped a lock of hair off the head of a 15-year-old female student and walked off with it has been reported to prosecutors, police said. Police reported the 57-year-old principal to the Saitama District Public Prosecutors Office on suspicion of assault following the incident, which took place at a municipal junior high school in September. Investigators said the principal approached the 15-year-old girl, who was talking to another student, as he was walking around the school in Hatogaya, Saitama Prefecture at about 4 p.m. on Sept. 16. Pulling out a pair of scissors and looking at the girl's hair, he said, "You should make that shorter," then snipped off some of the hair on the back of her head. The principal walked off with the hair he cut. The girl and her mother subsequently filed a complaint with police. The principal submitted his resignation to the municipal board of education on Sept. 21. He is currently on leave awaiting the board of education's conclusion on how to treat him.
