HORSHAM shopkeepers were left 'angry' and 'frustrated' when their businesses ground to a halt for an hour after a power cut crippled the early afternoon trade for a row of shops in the town centre on Tuesday (January 10).
The blackout hit nine buildings in Horsham's Carfax for the third year in a row and the managers of the affected businesses said they were 'sick and tired' and demanded 'something must be done'.
The shops were all without power from 2pm to 3pm.
Saks Hair and Beauty had to close nine of its 11 hairdressing positions and cancel ten appointments at an estimated cost of £500.
Staff at Burger King had to throw away more than 30 beef burgers and portions of chips and the fast food restaurant was closed until 3.30pm while the deep fat fryers reheated.
Horsham Photo Centre, Annett's Arts and Crafts, Cook, Mapp and Co Estate Agents, Moss, Ottakars Bookstore and Kelly Services all had to close for an hour.
A spokesman for power distributor EDF Energy said: "We would like to apologise to the customers affected by a power interruption today (Tuesday January 10) in Horsham's Carfax.
"A localised fault at a substation interrupted supplies to the customers for just under an hour at about 2pm."
